This type of a visa is intended for special category workers with high qualifications and good work experience in many selected sectors from health service to white collar jobs. Under Tier 2, employers can hire overseas workers if a vacancy is covered under the shortage occupation list or the employer has submitted a Resident Labour Market test. To obtain this kind of a visa, you would require obtaining a certificate of sponsorship from your sponsoring company as a part of your application. Your sponsoring employee will need to satisfy certain responsibilities.
This visa has little similarity with the Tier 1 visa. To qualify for this visa you will require 50 to 70 points under three areas: attributes for skill assessment, maintenance of self with a proof of proficiency in English language. Some of the sectors that come under this type of a visa is nursing and teaching. The major benefit of this type of a visa is the permanent settlement in the UK in the long run. To be eligible to make an application depends on different criterion. A good qualification will fetch you more points and similarly good earnings. Job offers for positions identified as being in shortage sectors by the Skills Advisory Body are worth 50 points.
In addition to the points system, you will also be required to show that you are proficient in the English Language. Under the second tier of UK immigration services family immigration will be permitted for your wife, husband, civil partner, unmarried partner and/or dependent children.
