Australia: Skilled Sponsored Family Visa

The Skilled Sponsored Family Visa for Australia is a points based assessment visa which gives preference to the skills, qualifications and work experience of the applicant who is applying under this category. The decision for the visa is made by the Department of Immigration and Multicultural and Indigenous Affairs (DIMIA) to allow a blood relative or a family of a living resident to enter Australia, as also the total points that are required for this category is open to change and varies according to the needs. An applicant needs to score a total of 100 points in general. The visa application is accompanied by the sponsorship from a relative sponsor to meet the necessary requirements. This visa allows the applicants to gain the status of a permanent resident and after two years of staying in Australia, an applicant may apply for Australian citizenship. The current processing time for the Skilled Sponsored migration visa is about 15 months from the start of the process.
There are certain eligibility criteria to qualify for this type of a visa which mainly includes-
  • Age- The applicant should not be over 45 years of age to lodge a visa application.
  • Skills & Qualification- The applicant should be qualified enough to suit the requirement for the assessing body. They must also meet the required work experience requirements. They must also nominate an occupation that suits their profile. They should also be working on ‘pay’ basis.
  • Sponsorship- The applicant should be related to the sponsorer on a primary root and should be over 18 years of age. The person who is sponsoring the applicant must be a citizen or a permanent resident of Australia. They must assure the State that they will support the visa applicant financially throughout their stay until they are establishment.
  • Health & Character- The applicant must be healthy and should not carry any contagious diseases which could be a threat to the people living in Australia. This could be done by undertaking a medical examination by a registered panel of doctors selected by the Australian Embassy. For character qualifications, the applicant has to obtain a police clearance certificate in order to ensure that no pending investigations are against the applicant.
