Australia: Prospective Marriage Visa

This visa is meant for those applicants who are engaged for marriage to an Australian resident who holds a permanent residence in Australia or is a citizen of Australia. This visa lets the fiancée or the prospective partner of the citizenship or PR holder to join the sponsorer who is to be married. Initially the visa is granted for a total of nine months and during this time the applicant going on a prospective marriage visa as a fiancé (e) could marry the sponsorer and later could put an application to immigrate to Australia to join the partner during their stay in Australia. After marriage it gives a pathway to the spouse on temporary basis and later the PR or citizenship of Australia. The current processing for the prospective marriage time is 4-6 months from the start of the process.  There are various requirements or eligibilities for this type of a visa which are mainly-
  1. The age of the applicant should be over 18 years of age at the time of lodgement of the application.
  2. The applicant for the prospective marriage visa must be sponsored by their fiancée to join them in Australia. The sponsorer has to be a citizen or a permanent resident of Australia.
  3. The applicant must also give evidence of a genuine relationship and must show their intentions to be in a continuing relationship even after arriving in Australia. They must provide supporting documents for the exclusiveness of their relationship.
  4. The applicant and the sponsorer must be entitled to marry under the Australia law.
  5. Health & Character- The applicant must be healthy and should not carry any contagious diseases which could be a threat to the people living in Australia. This could be done by undertaking a medical examination by a registered panel of doctors selected by the Australian Embassy. For character qualifications, the applicant has to obtain a police clearance certificate in order to ensure that no pending investigations are against the applicant.
