The family class visa for Canada allows the permanent residents or citizens of Canada to sponsor one of their relatives to Immigrate to Canada. The applicant does not need any work permit or does not need to go for a skill assessment test under the points based system. This type of a visa is quite in demand in Canada and is a sure pathway for obtaining a permanent residency. The sponsorer although have to be over 18 years of age to sponsor a person from abroad. The sponsorer also has to be a holder of permanent residency in Canada. The sponsorer has to undertake the responsibility of the applicant in terms of financial accountability. The sponsorer has to be willing to support the family member for a period of between 3 to 10 years until they are established in the country. After staying for 3 years in Canada permanent residents may apply for Canadian citizen themselves. The major benefit for this type of a visa is that the applicant does not need a work permit in Canada to work and may seek employment without any particular check. Neither the applicant is required to obtain a job offer to begin working in Canada. Unlike some of the visas for Canada like the business visa, the family class visa does not require any points based assessment to qualify. Relatives of any age living in Canada as citizens or permanent residents can act like a sponsorer if the applicant provides that they do not have any family member or relative in their home country. Dependent children also come under this route of immigration to Canada. The requirement for them is that they should be below 22 years of age and should not be married and should be dependent on their parents for financial support. Physically disabled children are sometimes exempted from some of the necessary requirements.
Main Eligibility Requirements :
1. The application for immigration under this category should be submitted before the relative has moved to Canada.
2. The Sponsorer should be willing to sponsor the applicant and undertake their responsibility with the Minister of Citizenship and Immigration. Both the sponsorer and the sponsored relative will also be required to sign a sponsorship agreement. A sponsorship agreement outlines the obligations of both the sponsorer and the relative who is immigrating to Canada. The former must agree to support the latter for the agreed period of time thus ensuring that they do not need to receive social assistance.
3. Apart from the main eligibility outlined above, there are various other requirements which have to be met. Health and character requirements are quite important and if it comes negative, the visa may be disapproved.
