The dependency visa for UK allows immigration of dependents to UK in the form of Indefinite Leave to Remain in the UK, generally termed as ILR or permanent residency. This visa is only applicable for those applicants who are dependent on someone living in the UK as a permanent resident or a UK citizen. That person also has to sponsor the applicant to live in the UK. The Dependency visa would also hold no restriction on the type or work, business, education that the applicant may undertake upon their arrival in the country. The applicants if successful would not need any job offer or an offer letter to study in the UK. After spending five years in the county they become eligible for British naturalization or permanent residence in the UK. Although no time limit is imposed on the applicant after the visa is granted, however in some cases they must not stay outside UK for a continuous period of two years which if done, would result in the loss of the ILR of the applicant. Apart from numerous eligibility requirements some are-
- Nature of dependency- This should state the nature of dependency of the applicant and the sponsorer. Proper document evidence has to be provided in order to make a visa application under this criterion. For example- dependent children, grandparents, mother- father, closely related relatives etc fall in this category.
- The sponsorer must undertake the financial responsibility of the dependent by providing proof that they have sufficient income resources to support them in the UK while their stay.
- They must provide evidence that they will be committed to take their responsibility without the usage of public funds.
- Health and Character requirements should be specified to the authorities to ensure that they are healthy and does not pose a threat to the state.
