The Child visa for Australia is intended for those applicants who are to join their parents in Australia as their dependent children. The applicant has to be a natural child, adopted child or a step child of the sponsor. This type of a visa is a permanent visa which allows the applicants to stay in Australia on permanent basis. To apply for this visa the applicants who are the children of the sponsorer must be under 18 or sometimes under 25 years of age to qualify as a dependent and should be dependent on their parents. The relationship with the Child, whether they are biological or adopted must be mentioned in some cases. Although a child can only be granted a permanent child visa on the basis of a step relationship in circumstances where the child's natural or adopted parent is an Australian citizen, a permanent resident, or the parent is no longer a spouse of the step parent and that step parent has been granted legal responsibility for the child by a court.
The child who is to be immigrated to Australia must not be married or have had a divorce in the past. The parents should undertake the responsibility of the child wholly. The current processing time is 4-6 months from the start of the process. An assurance of support may be required for the child visa application. Australia has strict health and character requirements that must be met before any permanent Australian visa of more than 12 months will be granted. The applicants will be required to undergo a medical by one of a panel of doctors selected by the Australian authorities, and in order to meet the character requirements, must obtain police clearance certificates from the local police authorities stating that they were not subjected to any criminal investigation in their previous country/s.
