Geography

National Parks on the World Heritage List are Carlsbad Caverns National Park, Grand Canyon National Park, Everglades National Park, Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Mammoth Cave National Park, Olympic National Park, Redwood National Park, Yellowstone National Park and Yosemite National Park.

The population of the USA was estimated at 303,824,640 in 2008.
Languages
English is the official language. Spanish is spoken by over ten percent the population. Hawaiian is an official language in Hawaii.
Religion
A large percentage of Americans are Christians. The United States has produced a number of evangelists such as Billy Graham.

Native American food includes various breads, soups and wild green salads. Colonists brought their own culinary traditions.

The United States is a leading industrial power with a highly diverse and technologically advanced economy.

Sports
Sport is important in the US and is part of American school and college life. Team sports include baseball, basketball, American football, hockey and lacrosse.

American sportsmen and sportswomen take part in international events in tennis, golf and boxing and are consistently successful in the Olympic Games. There are opportunities for swimming, ice-skating and skiing. Rodeos and car racing are both very American activities. Fishing and hunting are traditional outdoor pursuits.

Thanksgiving is celebrated on the fourth Thursday in November. It is a time when the American people give thanks to God. Independence Day (4 July) is an internationally known American holiday.

The Christian celebration of Christmas is observed throughout the country. The Jewish people celebrate the Festival of Hanukkah and some of the African-American communities celebrate Kwanzaa, a harvest festival.

Other holidays include New Year's Day, Inauguration Day, Martin Luther King Jr Day, George Washington's Birthday/President's Day, Memorial Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day and Veterans' Day.

This year's Country Brand Index indicates that US is still the top destination for business travel,topping the polls across all categories,although even the chaos at Heathrow Airport has not put business travellers off holding corporate meeting in the UK.
When asked which was the ideal country to do business in the US was voted top,followed by china,the UK,France and Italy.
The US was also deemed the easiest country to conduct business in ,with UK in the second,canada in third,ireland taking fourth place and france in fifth.
North America was also supposed to have the best Conference facilities in the world with Switzerland ,Germany,Singapore and United Arab Emirates following.

The rankings were pulled by well known brand consultancy FutureBrand and the PR firm Weber Shandwick. The numbers come from a global study of travel patterns, which looked into business trips, resorts and lodging options, outdoor activities and the country you would most like to live in.

On 11 September 2001 four US planes were hijacked by terrorists; two crashed into the twin towers of the World Trade Center, one crashed into the Pentagon and the fourth crashed in a field in Pennsylvania. It was estimated that around three thousand people were killed.

On 4 November 2008 Barack Obama was elected 44th President of the United States of America. Barack Obama is the first African-American to be elected President of the USA.
